Who We Are

No Carbon Fuel people come from the private technology sector, interested municipal employees and state legislators and staff. All are volunteers working with a common focus to accelerate the transition to transportation using clean energy. In particular, transportation used to provide municipal services.

Examples include: city and school buses, municipal cars and light trucks, specialized vehicles for trash collection, street cleaning, and other transportation used on a daily basis. Municipalities are encouraged by our volunteers to plan and implement charging and fueling stations for resident's vehicles, the general public's cars and to favor suppliers whose vehicles use clean energy. We work with planning and sustainability commissions to address electric infrastructure, storage and charging implementation approaches for dwellings and business.

Our Mission

We are engaged in advocacy for pragmatic No Carbon methods to mitigate climate impact of fossil fuel in transportation, power and industrial applications. Focus includes electric and hydrogen solutions, particularly in municipal operations. We prioritize addressing Environmental Justice for areas impacted by diesel and industrial emissions causing poor air quality.

Our goal is to encourage small and medium cities to collaborate for planning and purchasing of clean energy replacements for municipal vehicles. Collaboration enables lower pricing for clean energy vehicles with either battery electric or hydrogen electric drive. The cities would also collaborate on updates to their marshalling yards, enabling supplies of clean energy to their vehicles. Further, we encourage use of some vehicles like school buses which are idle at predictable times of the day as storage batteries connected to the grid to help trim peak electric demand with a no carbon solution.

Donations support the volunteer's expenses as they work to accomplish our Mission and Goals, and for purchased technical services. Donations are not used for salaries or expenses of the No Carbon Fuel management team.

Current activities are focused on small and medium cities in northern California.

Gay Howard
Civil Engineer - Data
She has witnessed decades of multimedia pollution resulting from industrial processes while employed as an Environmental Consultant. This motivates her to educate the public about the extent of the pollution's hazardous effects.  Leveraging an earlier career as a mathematics teacher, she encourages interest by developing easy-to-understand graphical representations of climatic trends. The website is kept fresh for students by identifying technological advances documented in published research and by curating news articles chronicling the transition to clean energy.  Information posted on NoCarbonFuel.org can be downloaded individually as PDFs to facilitate classroom instruction and student assignments. She is a registered Civil Engineer and coaches summer interns developing climate-related projects.

Ronith Chikkaballapur
Project Analyst - Data
At No Carbon Fuel Ronith is an intern working on adding new climate and clean energy information helpful to students in the Santa Clara County schools.  He goes to Monta Vista High School. Recently, he has had the pleasure of working with Ms. Howard and Dr. Tinsley to develop a Health-AQI tool that determines health costs due to certain Air Quality Indicators (AQI) in different cities. They intend to add this tool to the NoCarbonFuel website to educate everyone on the health costs per person associated with air pollution in their cities.
